In this exercise, the instruction was to count the number of passes made by the team in white. This task was easy enough, but it forced you to focus your mind on very specific objects in the video: the ball and the team in white. As a result, most people don’t notice the person dressed as a bear who enters the scene and starts dancing moonwalking (= a specific breakdance step).
What you can learn from this experience is to think about how best to balance your focus/vision based on the goal. If you choose to focus on the number of passes, it is unlikely that you will see the bear. If you focus on seeing the big picture, you will not be able to count the number of passes at the same time. Undoubtedly, we see and notice things, people and events only when we focus our attention on them.
Remember, there may always be a bear in front of you! Pay attention to the details around you and to the warning signs that may indicate an unwanted event (a colleague who is isolating himself from the rest of the team for example).
How many passes did you count from the white team?
So, anything special?
